Robotic Surgery
Robotics is a revolutionary tool to aid surgeons in performing complex minimally invasive surgical procedures with increased optical imaging, stabilized precision and definitive accuracy. At Mission Health, our robotics expands our surgeon’s capabilities to provide cutting-edge technology for our patients and community. Mission Health is innovating today to provide you with next-generation medicine close to home.
What Is Robotic Surgery?
Robotic surgery, or robot-assisted surgery, is a minimally invasive surgery that allows doctors to make tiny incisions with special robotic technology. Robotic surgery is minimally invasive because we use miniaturized surgical instruments that fit through a series of smaller incisions instead of making large incisions.
The most widely used clinical robotic surgical system includes a camera arm and mechanical robotic arms with surgical instruments attached to them. The surgeon controls the robotic arms while seated at a computer console in the operating room. The computer console gives the surgeon a high-definition, magnified, 3D view of the surgical site.

Improved Technology for Physicians, Better Outcomes for Patients
By using robotic systems to equip surgeons with improved vision and increased range of motion, their dexterity and precision are greatly enhanced. Robotic surgical systems make it possible for surgeons to continue to perform and expand the bounds of minimally invasive procedures offered to our patients. At Mission Health, we continue to invest in cutting-edge technology that allows our surgeons to offer the most innovative surgical procedures for a multitude of surgical conditions.
Benefits of Robotic Surgery:
- Minimally invasive
- Less blood loss
- Less pain
- Less risk of infection
- Faster recovery time
- Shorter hospital stay
- Less scarring
- Improved stability for delicate procedures
- Greater operative precision through enhanced high-definition optics
- Fewer complications, such as surgical-site infections and hernias
Is Robotic Surgery Right for You?
Robotic surgery isn't an option for everyone. But for many, a small-incision operation offers advantages over traditional surgery. Talk with your provider about the benefits and risks of robotic surgery, and how it compares with other techniques, such as conventional open surgery.
