Experts at Helping People Regain Their Lives

Our interdisciplinary team of experts includes professionals in pediatric and adult orthotics (bracing) and prosthetics (artificial limbs), known as certified orthotists/prosthetists.

Other team members include physiatrists (doctors who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation), physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained, experienced experts.

Whether you have lost a limb, or the use of a limb, as a result of an accident or a condition such as diabetes or cerebral palsy, or you are dealing with a condition like debilitating foot pain, our specialists are here to help restore your quality of life, your confidence and the highest possible level of independence.

CarePartners has decades of experience developing and fitting custom orthotic and prosthetic devices for our patients. Using the latest technology, materials and research, our experts will help you find a solution that is comfortable, easy to use and fits your lifestyle.

The typical patient experience can be broken down into four steps:

  • Evaluation – Your evaluation will include reviewing relevant medical history, taking measurements and impressions, which will be used to make a perfectly fitting artificial limb or brace.
  • Fabrication – Our skilled technicians will create your artificial limb or brace in our in-house fabrication lab right here in Asheville, North Carolina.
  • Fitting and instruction – Our practitioners will help you test the fit and comfort of your new device, and make sure that you understand the proper use and care for the device. If necessary, a CarePartners physical therapist will be available to provide additional help and training.
  • Adjustments and repairs – You and your practitioner will work together to get just the right fit. Adjustments or replacements may be needed as you grow, age or experience changes to your physical condition or lifestyle, and we’ll be here for you every step of the way.

A Comprehensive Array of Services

  • State-of-the-art orthotic and prosthetic technology
  • Immediate Post-Operative Prostheses (IPOPs) – provide significant benefits to new amputees
  • Myoelectric Arm Prostheses – artificial limbs powered by electronics instead of the muscle strength of the patient
  • Custom infant cranial remolding helmets
  • Scanner technology – allows clinicians to scan a body part to get quick accurate measurements for better custom fitting without casting and tracking changes in fit. This may not be best for every application, so traditional methods are still available.

  • Stance phase KAFOs (knee-ankle-foot orthoses)
  • RGO (reciprocal gait orthoses) devices – help paraplegics to stand and to walk upright
  • WalkAide Device – an advanced treatment for drop foot that can replace AFOs (ankle-foot orthoses)
  • Post-op spinal braces – made to physician's specifications
  • Gait training
  • Individualized patient education programs
  • Upper Extremity Amputee Program, which helps patients learn to navigate the unique challenges of daily life with an upper extremity amputation
  • Amputee clinics, bringing together all disciplines at one time, in one location, for the convenience of the patient and to provide a coordinated, comprehensive treatment plan
  • Community sponsored educational programs
