Rapid Access Anemia Management Clinic Anemia is one of the most common clinical problems encountered by primary care providers. It can be caused by a wide variety of simple and complex conditions including nutritional deficiencies, renal insufficiency, liver disease, hemolysis, chronic inflammatory conditions, as well as primary bone marrow pathology. Anemia can result in a reduced quality of life, as well as increased risk for morbidity and mortality with surgical procedures. As anemia represents a common and significant clinical issue, Mission has developed a Rapid Access Anemia Management Clinic with the goal of providing expedited diagnosis and treatment. The Rapid Access Anemia Management Clinic at Mission Health focuses on the comprehensive evaluation and management of: Suspected or Recurrent iron deficiency Preoperative anemia Anemia caused by chronic renal insufficiency More complex anemia referrals will continue to be managed through the hematology clinic. Anemia Services The Rapid Access Anemia Management Clinic provides a staged approach to the evaluation and management of anemia in a single, convenient location, and brings together an expert team comprised of hematologists, advanced practice providers, specially trained nurses and pharmacists who partner with primary care physicians as an extension of care. We promptly schedule appointments within 24-48 hours, and initiate timely therapeutic interventions. Our services include: Supplementary laboratory evaluation Bone marrow examination, if indicated Intravenous Iron ESA administration Transfusion Follow-up care for patients with a primary hematological disorder We work alongside surgeons, gastroenterologists, gynecologists and other specialists to deliver a multidisciplinary, team-based approach to treatment of anemia to improve each patient’s symptoms and quality of life, while reducing morbidity, mortality, length of hospital stay and use of blood products.
