About Weight Loss Surgery

At Mission, we understand that electing for weight loss surgery is a decision to undertake a life long journey, and partner with you to support you each step of the way. Leading up to your surgery, you will have consultations with our weight loss surgeons, dieticians, exercise specialists and behavioral specialists who work as a team to provide pre-operative support and education, effective post-operative follow-up and monitoring. After your surgery, you will have access to counseling, support groups, education, and lifestyle modification to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle and ensure your long-term success.

Our weight loss surgeon will work with you to understand your needs and goals, and will guide you towards the procedure that is best for you. Our surgical options include:

Gastric Sleeve:

The gastric sleeve is a procedure in which the surgeon permanently reduces the size of your stomach into a smaller, banana-shaped “sleeve” in order to limit the amount of food you can eat.

Patients typically lose 50 to 80 percent excess weight within 6 to 12 months after surgery.

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass:

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is a procedure in which the surgeon closes off part of the stomach to create a small stomach pouch that restricts the amount of food that can be eaten without feeling full.

The small intestine is separated into an upper portion and a lower portion, with the surgeon attaching the lower portion to the pouch, allowing the food to pass directly into the small intestine. The upper portion is then reconnected, supplying fluids to completely digest the food.

Patients typically lose 75 percent of excess weight within 18 to 24 months after surgery.
