Robotic surgery, or robot-assisted surgery, is a minimally invasive surgery that allows doctors to make tiny incisions with special robotic technology. Robotic surgery is minimally invasive because we use miniaturized surgical instruments that fit through a series of smaller incisions instead of making large incisions. The most widely used clinical robotic surgical system includes a camera arm and mechanical robotic arms with surgical instruments attached to them. The surgeon controls the robotic arms while seated at a computer console in the operating room. The computer console gives the surgeon a high-definition, magnified, 3D view of the surgical site.
