Scheduled Surgical Procedures are Safe - An Update for Our Patients

Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery

The liver, pancreas and bile ducts are important organs that aid in digestion and perform a variety of complex jobs that aid in other bodily functions. Diseases and illnesses of the liver, pancreas and bile ducts can be complex, and require a specialist for proper diagnosis and treatment.

At Mission Surgery, we partner with referring physicians and imaging specialists to accurately diagnose conditions of the liver, pancreas and bile ducts, and serve patients using the most advanced treatments available. Our surgeons are board certified, extensively experienced and highly skilled, and use minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery, which may result in faster postoperative recovery and fewer complications.

Liver Surgery

The liver is a large organ in the upper right part of the abdomen, and performs a wide variety of tasks that affect other bodily functions, including controlling the amount of sugar, protein and fat that enter the bloodstream, producing cholesterol, breaking down drugs and processing nutrients absorbed by the intestines during digestion and converting them into nutrients that can be used.

While rare, the liver can be susceptible to tumors caused by congenital defects, primary cancer or cancer spread from other parts of the body (metastatic surgery). One of the few parts of the human body able regenerate, the most common liver surgical procedure is liver resection, in which the diseased part of the liver is removed, allowing healthy tissue to grow in its place.

At Mission, our surgeons diagnose and surgically manage both benign and malignant tumors caused by:

  • Primary liver cancer
  • Liver metasteses
  • Hepatic hemangioma
  • Hepatitis A, B & C
  • Cirrhosis

Bile Duct Surgery

Your bile ducts are thin tubes that move bile, a substance that helps digest fats, from your liver to your gallbladder, and from your gallbladder to your pancreas and intestines. Injuries, illnesses and disorders can cause bile ducts to become blocked, which can result in severe complications.

At Mission Surgery, we offer advanced diagnosis and treatment for conditions of the biliary system, including:

  • Bile duct obstruction
  • Gallstones
  • Bile duct cancer

Pancreas Surgery

The pancreas is an organ in your abdomen that sits behind your stomach. It makes digestive enzymes that helps your body break down and process food, and also makes insulin, the hormone that regulates sugar in the blood. At Mission Surgery, our experienced surgeons are able to treat complex pancreatic disease, including:

  • Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (pancreatic cancer)
  • Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors
