Acute Care Services

Our acute care, inpatient pharmacy is based on a patient-centered integrated model. Pharmacists are responsible for both the clinical and distributive activities of the pharmacy department. Pharmacists are organized into clinical service lines that develop extensive and specialized knowledge in their designated disciplines. Clinical service lines represent cardiology medicine, pediatric/neonatology medicine, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, adult internal medicine, infectious diseases, psychiatry medicine, transitions of care, metabolic support, and distributive services. Our pharmacists work in patient care areas and utilize their knowledge of medication products, pharmacotherapy, medication safety, and technology on a daily basis to improve the lives of patients that they serve.

Clinical services include the following:

  • multi-disciplinary rounding
  • transitions of care services
  • medication dosing
  • patient education
  • antibiotic stewardship
  • drug information
  • participation on the Code Blue team

Medication distribution is supported by an integrated electronic medical record (Cerner® Millennium), barcode medication administration, and automated drug dispensing machines (ADDMs) on patient care units.

Mission has a centralized distribution facility that features the following:

  • USP <797> cleanroom with two RIVA IV compounding robots
  • Five medication carousels to prepare medications for ADDM replenishment and patient-specific cart-fill
  • Medication repackaging with Medi-dose®, Pentapak®, and Wet Cadet®
  • Non-sterile compounding

The pharmacy received an ASHP Pharmacy Practice Model Grant in 2014 to support transitions of care expansion including a Meds to Beds bedside prescription delivery with post discharge follow up.
