COPD Management

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) affects millions of Americans by making it harder to get air in and out of the lungs. If you have COPD, you know how difficult it is to live with. Mission Hospital's COPD management program helps you fully understand and make the best of your situation. In this program, a pulmonary rehabilitation specialist conducts an evaluation of your COPD level and introduces a comprehensive self care plan designed just for you. We provide services for individuals with COPD involving:

  • Asthma
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Emphysema
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Lung volume reduction surgery for emphysema
  • Preparing for or returning from lung transplantation

Your COPD management team includes a pulmonologist, physical and respiratory therapists, registered nurses, a dietitian, a psychologist, and exercise specialists. The program may include:

  • Family and community resource education
  • Nutritional and psychosocial counseling
  • Exercise programs
  • Training in breathing techniques
  • Bronchial hygiene
  • Smoking cessation
Because it's almost impossible to improve or even stabilize your COPD if you still smoke, we cannot accept participants until they quit. Mission Hospital offers a powerful and compassionate Smoking Cessation program for people addicted to nicotine. For information, call 828-213-5527.
